Through collaboration with community partners, grants and outreach efforts, the United Health Foundation works to improve our health system, build a diverse and dynamic health workforce and enhance the well-being of local communities.
The United Health Foundation was established by UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) in 1999 as a not-for-profit, private foundation dedicated to improving health and health care. To date, the United Health Foundation has committed more than $700 million to programs and communities around the world.

For more than three decades, the United Health Foundation’s America’s Health Rankings has provided an analysis of national health on a state-by-state basis by evaluating a historical and comprehensive set of health, environmental and socioeconomic data to determine national health benchmarks and state rankings. The United Health Foundation has been recognized as a Healthy People 2030 ChampionSM by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The program recognizes public and private organizations that are committed to addressing national health priorities including eliminating health disparities and achieving health equity.

In 2022, the United Health Foundation made a 10-year, $100 million commitment to deepen and scale our health workforce diversity efforts. Through our new Diversity in Health Care Scholarship program, we are focused on accelerating our progress in advancing health equity.

The United Health Foundation is committed to building healthier communities through partnerships with trusted organizations.
Our Partners
Organizations must be invited by the United Health Foundation to apply for grants, and must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, or a public agency/unit of government.
Activities ineligible for funding include capital campaigns, project planning grants, general operations, direct financial assistance to individuals, endowments, fundraising events or development campaigns, political causes, candidates or legislative lobbying efforts, recreational, sporting events or athletic associations, religious organizations for religious purposes, or basic or biomedical research.
